What a typical residential installation day looks like
For a standard furnace or AC replacement in a Livonia home, here is how the day generally unfolds:
Crew arrives and setup begins
Drop cloths are placed to protect flooring. The work area is assessed, and the old system is photographed and documented before removal begins.
Old equipment removed
Existing furnace, AC condenser, or both are disconnected, removed, and prepped for disposal. Gas lines and refrigerant lines are properly capped during this phase.
New equipment installed and connected

Heat pump installations sometimes require a dedicated circuit or panel upgrade. If this is needed, it is coordinated with an electrician either before install day or during — which may extend the timeline.
Non-standard equipment locations
Attic air handlers, equipment in tight crawl spaces, or unusual flue routing configurations take more time than standard basement or utility room installations.
Larger home or complex layout
Homes over 3,000 sq ft with multiple zones or floors take longer to balance and test than smaller single-zone installations.
Custom fabrication needed
Occasionally a transition, plenum, or connection piece needs to be custom-fabricated on site to connect new equipment to existing ductwork. This is uncommon but adds time when it occurs.
What about the permit and inspection?
The permit is filed before installation day and does not affect how long the installation itself takes. The inspection, however, happens after the installation — typically within a few days to a week depending on the building department's schedule.

We coordinate the inspection directly and notify you when it is scheduled. The inspector visits, reviews the installation, and signs off — you do not need to be present, though you are welcome to be.
